We’ve always got something going here around the StyleRocket offices, and today is no different. Besides the cool new products we just got in stock, we’ve handing out some other tid bits and facts for you today. Thanks to our web/graphics guru Eric, we’ve learned all about worldwide diseases from “The Hypochondriac’s Pocket Guide to Horrible Diseases You Already Have” by Dennis Diclaudio. It’s got everything from Cat Scratch Fever to Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis to Scleroderma (and not the TV version from Grey’s Anatomy either) to our favorite: Candiru Infestation. Let’s say you’re swimming in the Amazon and you have to pee. Well mister, hold that pee in, because a parasite named Mr. Candiru, or the vampire fish, swims up your urethra and lodges itself in your urinary tract. Even if you manage to get the little sucker by the tail and try to pull it out, the little guy won’t come out, due to the backward pointing BARBS in his gills that are stuck in your urinary tract. Then it proceeds to suck the blood out of you, because, well, it’s the friggin Amazon and he’s hungry. The more you pull, the easier it is for him to eat. There are a few remedies for this quandry, but honestly, they do not sound like fun: Surgical removement of the parasite from the bladder, death from blood loss and or shock, or some crazy Amazonian tea made by the locals which causes the parasite to dissolve. Yeah, we’re counting on that one to work. Actualy we’re not, but I’m sure none of us will be in America de Sur anytime soon thank you very much.
